O'Connor scores three in 7-1 home win over Centenary

ALBANY, NY -- Sophomore forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) scored three goals and assisted on two others to lead The Sage Colleges to a 7-1 field hockey win over Centenary University at the University of Albany's Alumni Field Wednesday night. Both teams now stand 2-4 after this non-league contest.

O'Connor scored on all five of her shots on goal and now has six goals and six assists for 18 points in just six games. Sophomore Jenna Egan (Germantown, NY/Germantown), freshman Mia Unverzagt (Ellenville, NY/Evansville), junior Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) and junior Hayley Mato (Copake, NY) each scored for the Gators, while Johnston's score was her seventh of the young season. Sophomore Charity Rushinski (Shusan, NY/Salem Central) had two assists and Johnston also added an assist. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made three saves while Sydnie Bogan had nine stops in net for the guests.

Sage had a 22-8 shot advantage in the game, including 10-1 after the first half. The Gators also produced 13 corners to the guests' five. 

The hosts led 2-1 at halftime, but opened it up with three goals in the third quarter, all coming in a span of 4:26 to lead 5-1 at the 41:48 mark. Sage added two more in the fourth period. 

Sage will be back in action on September 21 travelling to Nazareth College for a 2 p.m. Empire 8 road match, while Centenary University is back in action on September 21 travelling to Stevenson University for a 4 p.m. contest.
