Sage bests Elms 4-1 to give rookie coach Tamara Mills her first career win

SAGE FIELD HOCKEY DELIVERS FIRST CAREER WIN TO HEAD COACH MILLS AS GATORS BEAT ELMS, 4-1

Chicopee, MA—The Sage Colleges' field hockey program travelled to Elms College on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference match. By days' end, Sage had earned a 4-1 win to deliver the first career win to rookie head coach Tamara Mills. Sage is now 1-3 on the year and Elms drops to 1-3 as well.

Sage struck first as sophomore forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) scored her first goal of the match on a pass from junior forward Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) at the 22:00 minute mark of the match to give Sage a 1-0 lead at the half. The pair connected again at the 31:36 mark to open the third quarter with the Gators holding a 2-1 lead. Minutes later, Johnston scored on a pass from O'Connor as Sage led 3-0. Off the corner at the 43:13 mark of the match, Johnston and O'Connor scored Sage's fourth and final goal of the afternoon at the 43:13 mark of the contest.

Johnston and O'Connor now has 8 points each on the year as they both have three goals with two assists. O'Connor has a program-leading seven career goals already, while boasting 18 career points in her 21 games played as a Gator.

Elms got on the score board after a series of shots off back to back corners where the Gator sophomore goalie   Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made the initial save before Francesca Davitt scored with just 2:18 left in the match. Greier made six saves in the action in earning the win. Elms sophomore goalie Nora Newman made 11 saves on the day.

Sage will be back in action on September 14 hosting Keuka College at 1 p.m. hosting the Wolves in their 2019 home opener held at UAlbany's Alumni Field.
