Gators drop another heart breaker in OT, 3-2 to Cabrini

Madison, NJ—The Sage Colleges' field hockey program went to overtime for the second time in as many days. This time Sage faced Cabrini College in the second day of competition at the Drew University Fall Festival. Cabrini triumphed, 3-2 over Sage putting the Gators at 0-2 and Cabrini at 1-1 on the young season.

Down 1-0 after Cabrini's Trisha Billig struck first at the 6:37 mark, Sage's junior Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) collected the tying goal in the second quarter at 26:00. Rookie forward Emily Schnoop (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) scored her first collegiate goal to give Sage a 2-1 lead as she scored at the 57:43 mark.

Sage watched the lead slip away just 40 second later as Katie Heck scored on a pass from Maura Tumelty at the 58:23 to knot the game at 2-2 before regulation expired. 

Just 4:06 into the overtime period, Cabrini's Tumelty scored the game-winner on a feed from Olivia Sims off the left side on a restart to give Cabrini the victory.

Gator keeper sophomore Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made nine saves in net for Sage, while Cabrini's Noelia Ramirez picked up the win with her seven saves in the cage.

Sage will be back in action on September 7 travelling to Brockport State for a noon game with the Golden Eagles next Saturday.
