Nine Sage Field Hockey Players honored by NFHCA

NFHCA announces 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad:

SAGE FIELD HOCKEY TEAM PLACES NINE ON THE SQUAD

GILBERT, Ariz. — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is proud to recognize the 1,746 student-athletes from 147 Division III institutions earned recognition on the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.

Williams College led all institutions with 23 National Academic Squad selections. Amherst College and the University of Scranton tied for the second-most, with 22 selections each.

Awarded recognition for their efforts were nine members of Sage's field hockey team. They are:

Abigayle Greier (Fr., Elma, NY/Iroquois Central)

Micalli Johnston (So., Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac)

Alexandra Lettre (Fr., Kingston, NY/Kingston)

Hayley Mato (Jr., Copake, NY/Taconic Hills)

Sara O'Connor (Fr., Rexford, NY/Niskayuna)

Aunna Parker (So., Springfield, VT/Springfield)

Brooke Perry (Fr., Hampton, NY/Glenville)

Charity Rushinski (Fr., Shushan, NY/Salem Central)

The Sage Colleges' field hockey program wrapped the inaugural season with a selection to this year's team for their academic prowess. Under the guidance of head coach Gillian McDonald, Sage had a number of impressive things happen on the season and posted a record of 4-13.  For the season, Sage strung together a two-game win streak, while also finishing with four wins and went to overtime three times as well with opponents. On the year, Sage had two shutouts with 24 goals and 3.303 goals allowed average.  Earlier this month, Sage's Field Hockey Team was also honored for their overall team grade-point-average as a 2018 NFHCA All-Academic Team Award recipient.
