Sage Field Hockey Players Honored by the Empire 8

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' field hockey program wrapped the inaugural season with a pair of performers honored by the Empire 8 with the release of the 2018 Empire 8 Field Hockey All-Star Team. Under the guidance of head coach Gillian McDonald, Sage had a number of impressive things happen on the season and posted a record of 4-13.  For the season, Sage strung together a two-game win streak, while also finishing with four wins and went to overtime three times as well with opponents. On the year, Sage had two shutouts with 24 goals and 3.303 goals allowed average.

Sage's rookie midfielder Cortney Conley (Stanfordville, NY/Stissing Mountain) was named to the Empire 8 Honorable Mention for her play on the field this season, while rookie back Brooke Perry (Hampton, NY/Granville) was named to the 2018 Empire 8 Field Hockey Sportswomen Team.

Head coach McDonald noted about Conley, "Cortney has had a great first season for us as she rarely came off the field and was called on to play a multitude of positions." She added, "She truly is a well-rounded player as she takes care of both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball and did a great job for the Gators." 

Conley finished the 2018 campaign with nine points on four goals with an assist and added a pair of defensive saves as well in 17 matches played.

Perry played in all 17 matches as well and added two defensive saves with a goal and helped to anchor the defense.

McDonald noted of Perry, "Brooke has been an incredible representative for our first-year program." She continued, "She is extremely hardworking, coachable and most importantly, always plays the game with class and integrity."
