Field hockey team drops finale in 2 OT's to Morrisville, 3-2

Morrisville, NY—Sage's field hockey team travelled to Morrisville State University on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference match-up with the Mustangs. The contest went to overtime and gave Morrisville the 3-2 victory putting the Mustangs at 4-13 and Sage wraps their first season also at 4-13.       

The Gators wrap the 2018 season, the first for the field hockey program with a 4-13 mark and went to overtime three times under the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Gillian McDonald.

After trailing 1-0, Sage's rookie Jenna Egan (Germantown, NY/Germantown) tied the match with a goal on a pass from sophomore forward Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) at 52:04.

The Mustangs retook the lead at 56:09 as Heather Cummings scored. Junior Hayley Mato (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) tied the match with a goal at 63:25.

Cummings would strike with the game-winning goal as she tallied her ninth goal of the season with her goal at 87:17.

Sage freshman goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made seven saves in the action and wraps her first season as a Gator with 3-11 record.  

On the season, rookie forward Charity Rushinski (Shushan, NY/Salem Central) led the team with her 11 points on 3 goals with a team-best 5 assists. Freshman Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) was the team's second leading scorer with 10 points on 4 goals with 2 assists.

On the year, Sage had two shutouts with 24 goals and 3.303 goals allowed average and had a two-game win streak as well.
