O'Connor leads 2-0 field hockey win over NEC

Albany, N.Y. –Freshman forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) scored a goal and assisted on the other as The Sage Colleges field hockey team defeated New England College, 2-0 at the University at Albany Thursday afternoon. The Gators ended a six-game losing streak with the victory in cold and breezy weather and improved to 3-11. New England College is now 8-9.

Sage freshman goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made two saves and recorded the shutout, her first shutout of the season and the team's second. Christine McNeil made five saves for the Pilgrims.

The Gators outshot the Pilgrims, 18-7, and had all six first half shots. Sage also had 14 of the 15 corners in the game.

O'Connor scored the first goal of the game at 54:19. After a rebound, freshman midfielder Hunter Broockmann (Stuyvesent, NY/Ichabod Crane) assisted as O'Connor had a short shot to the left side of the net. It was O'Connor's fifth goal of the season. The Gators made it 2-0 at 60:21. O'Connor set up freshman midfielder/forward Jenna Egan (Germantown, NY/Germantown) in close as Egan scored her second of the year.

Sage will make up the remaining time in the second overtime tomorrow at Drew. This game that was played on October 2 was tied at 2-2 before being suspended due to weather. The Gators will then get right back in action Saturday at Stevens for the final Empire 8 game of the season at 2 p.m.
