Fisher wins conference field hockey game

Pittsford, NY – Lauren Fazio scored a natural hat trick in the first half as the St. John Fisher field hockey team defeated The Sage Colleges. 9-0 in an Empire 8 conference matchup at Growney Stadium Friday afternoon. The Cardinals are now 4-1 in the league and 9-4 overall, while the Gators stand 2-10 and 0-6 in league play.

Fazio finished with four goals for the day. Fisher outshot Sage, 28-2 and the corners were 7-5 and Sage freshman goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made 12 saves for the game.

Kelly Bergamo opened the scoring just 1:03 into the game for the Cardinals. It was her fifth of the season. Just 4:40 later, Fazio started her big day with an assisted goal from Gianna Palma. It was her 11th of the year and made it 2-0 Fisher.

The two teamed up again at 17:26, as Palmer's feed was deflected in on the left side of the net for a 3-0 lead. Fazio's natural hat trick was completed at 22:55, when she put in a rebound for the 4-0 score. The Cardinals closed out the first half scoring with a goal just 2:01 later, as Bre Stocker scored her 10th of the year on a breakaway.

Stocker got an assist from Kelly Bergamo 1:56 into the second half for her second of the day and a 6-0 Fisher lead. Talia Scarfino tallied her first of the year, coming off a rebound at 49:21, and 24 seconds later Fazio struck again, with a pass from Lindsay Scott.

Meagan McDonald's goal, assisted by Ashley Maynard, was the final score coming at 67:24 for the 9-0 result.

Sage is idle until Saturday, September 20 when the Gators host league rival Nazareth at RPI's Harkness Field at 2 p.m.
