Sage Tops Drew in Penalty Shots, 3-2

Madison, NJ—Sage's field hockey team travelled back to New Jersey on Friday night to complete a match that was started on October 2 and was suspended due to lighting with the two teams tied at 2-2 with 1:41 left in the second period of overtime.  After playing the 1:41 remaining in the second period of overtime, the score remained deadlocked at 2-2. Headed to a penalty stroke shootout, Sage would collect the victory as they beat the Rangers, 3-2. The Gators got the game-winning penalty shoy from rookie Alexandra Lettre (Kingston, NY/Kingston) putting Sage at 4-11 overall, while Drew falls to 2-15 on the year.

The Rangers outshot the Gators, 15-8, as Sage freshman goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made 10 saves. She made five in the final 5:25 of the first overtime period. Drew had 10 corners to Sage's five.

Kate Todero opened the scoring for Drew with her first of the year at 7:29. Jinah Cappuccino had a pass in front of the cage and Todero scored to the right side of the net.

Freshman forward Charity Rushinski (Shushan, NY/Salem Central) tied it for Sage at 12:41 with an unassisted score. She got through the defenders and notched her second of the year.

The Gators took the lead at 27:31 as freshman Jenna Egan (Germantown, NY/Germantown) scored with an assist from rookie Hunter Broockmann (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane). The pass from Broockmann came across the face of the cage, and Egan shot in her second to the near right post.

Drew closed out the scoring at 60:30 with a goal by Hanna Cohen Jehoram, her first. Carly Schiller assisted with her corner and Cohen Jehoram took a long shot from the circle.

In the penalty shot round, Lettre had the winning shot for her first goal of the season and helped Sage to the first-year program's first two-game win streak in the process.

In that round, Sage's Greier came up big as the third round of shots started with her making a great stick save on the ground and then stopping a rebound on the right post.

Sage is back in action on October 27 travelling to Stevens Institute of Technology for a 2 p.m. Empire 8 match at DeBaun Stadium.
