Elmira second half goal leads 2-1 win over Gators

Pine Valley, NY – Mae Dinh scored at 48:28 for the eventual game winner as host Elmira College defeated The Sage Colleges, 2-1 in an Empire 8 field hockey contest Saturday. The Soaring Eagles won their first league game of the young season (1-2) and are now 3-6 on the season while the Gators fell to 0-3 in league play and 2-7 for the fall.

After a Liz Shephard corner, Kelsie Aloi got the ball through the scramble and a scrum in front, assisting on Dinh's score, her second of the season.

Aloi opened the scoring just 7:22 into the game. She finished off a pass from Janie Kempf in front of the cage and notched her third of the year. Sage tied it as freshman forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) scored her fourth of the fall. Freshman forward Charity Rushinski (Shushan, NY/Salem Central) fed a pass from the right side to the middle and O'Connor poked it in to the game at 1-1 at 17:57.

Elmira had 10 shots on the day, eight of which came in the second half. The Soaring Eagles also had 12 of the 15 penalty corners. Sage had six shots, three in each half.

Sage freshman goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made two saves and Tina O'Donnell stopped one for Elmira.

Next up for Sage is Tuesday, October 2 at Drew at 7:00 p.m. Elmira plays Wednesday, October 3 at home against Brockport at 4:00 p.m.
