Sage stops streak with 3-1 win at Wells
Aurora, NY -- Three different players scored to lead The Sage Colleges to a 3-1 field hockey victory at Wells Turf Field. Sage is 2-5 on the season and Wells is 1-6.
 
The Gators outshot the Express, 26-3 and had 16 of the game's 18 corners on the day. Allison Solomon made 15 saves for the Express while Sage freshman goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made three saves.
 
Sage took a 2-0 lead into the half. Freshman midfielder/forward Courtney Conley (Stanfordville, NY/Stissing Mountain) opened the scoring just 8:40 into the contest. She took a pass from outside the area from Charity Rushinski (Shushan, NY/Salem Central) and scored scored in the center for her third of the season. At 23:32, freshman mdfielder/forward Jenna Egan (Germandtown, NY/Germantown) notched her first when she stole the ball from the defense and scored front the inside top. 

Wells answered in the second half to pull to within one. On a penalty corner, a shot from the top of the arc by Chloe Marcus was blocked. On the ensuing scramble, Whitney Coleman slid the ball toward the front of the net where Mollie Walts shot it over the line for her third of the year with 20:25 remaining in the second half. The Gators scored with 2:31 remaining to account for the final score. Freshman forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) got the insurance goal with her third of the year. It came after a pass from the top of the circle from junior midfielder Haley Mato (Copake, NY/Taconic Halls) and she tipped it past the keeper.

Sage is right back on the field Sunday with a 1 p.m. non-league game at Keuka. Wells hosts Elmira in non-league play Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.
