Hartwick wins Empire 8 field hockey match, 4-0

ONEONTA, NY – Four different players each scored a goal as host Hartwick College defeated The Sage Colleges, 4-0 in an Empire 8 Conference contest Wednesday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8, while the Gators, in the program's first season, fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Hartwick had all 26 shots in the game, and took 20 of the 21 corners. Sage junior goalkeeper Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) made 14 saves for the guests.

Katie Meuse opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 23:09. She collected a loose ball in front and scored her third of the season. Just under 12 minutes later (34:52), Bella Wheeler notched her first of the year. She also scored unassisted, as she made it 2-0 off a rebound. Allyson Quirk got her third of the year, coming at 42:21.

Perry Willett fed her and Quirk dribbled into the circle to score her goal. Maria Stalder was the third Hawk to score her third of the year, this coming at 61:04. A cross from Meuse was finished in front by Stalder for the eventual 4-0 final.

Sage returns to action Saturday for a non-league game at Wells at 1 p.m. Hartwick plays a 1 p.m. game in Empire 8 play at Stevens Saturday.
