Brockport defeats Sage field hockey, 4-0

Troy, NY – Sophomore forward Meaghan Lurz (Penfield, NY/Penfield) scored two goals to lead The College of Brockport to a 4-0 non-league field hockey victory over The Sage Colleges at RPI's Harkness Field Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-3 while the Gators now stand 1-4.

Senior Adriana DeDie (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) made two saves for the Golden Eagles and she posted her first shutout of the season. Freshman Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois) also made two stops. Brockport had the advantage in both corners (10-7) and corners (7-3).

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring at 34:14, when a pass from freshman forward Katelynn Mello (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) to the left side of the net to Lurz. The senior tapped in her first of the season for a 1-0 Brockport lead.

At 10:42, the Gators had a great chance to even it up but sophomore forward Micalli Johnston's (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) shot to the left of the net was stopped with a diving save by DeDie to preserve the lead.

Moments later, the Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead. Junior forward Molly Scarpello (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) got a loose ball past midfield and came in through traffic into the Sage zone. She made her way in close and scored her second of the season at 9:19.

DeDie stopped a strong scoring chance by Sage freshman midfielder/forward Kathryn Gallagher (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls) and then a follow up shot by freshman midfielder/forward Samantha Marrish (Hudson, NY/Germantown) was blocked by her defense with 27:30 gone in the half.

Brockport opened a 3-0 lead in the second half. A corner came out to sophomore midfielder Emily Hall (Penfield, NY/Penfield), who passed to the side to Lurz, who scored her second of the day at 51:10. Brockport ended the scoring at 69:18 on an unassisted goal by freshman forward Alyssa Fuccillo (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills).
