Gators fall at Houghton; Baseball secures 2nd straight E8 tournament appearance

Houghton, NY – Houghton University picked up the 12-6 victory over Russell Sage College's baseball team in Empire 8 play on Sunday. The Gators wrap Empire 8 play with a 9-9 record and have secured the program's second straight Empire 8 tournament bid. RSC is now 16-21 overall after Sunday's setback.

RSC jumped out to 3-0 lead through the middle of the second inning, but the Highlanders tacked on four runs in the bottom of the second and the Gators were unable to overcome the deficit despite stranding 11 baserunners.

Sophomore Don Caminitti (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) drove in three runs and was 2-for-5 at the plate.  Senior James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber) and sophomore Zachary Figueras (Apolka, FL/Windermere) each had doubles in the game, while sophomore outfielder Jared Russell (Colonie, NY/Colonie) had a pair of stolen bases in the game.

Sophomore Ricky Parks (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) got the nod as the starter, throwing 1.1 innings with four earned runs off of two hits with a pair of walks. He drops to 3-3 this year. Also working from the mound on Sunday were senior Will Simkin(Canberra, Australia),  graduate player Cameron  Anderson (Clifton Park, NY/Burnt Hills), sophomore Jaylen Cuevas (Bronx, NY/FordhamPrep), and senior Sean Berry (Tivoli, NY/Red Hook).

RSC will host New York University on May 7 in a non-conference doubleheader at Saint Rose's Plumeri  Complex in a noon start.
