RSC drops heartbreaker to Medaille,3-2

Buffalo, NY – Russell Sage College's baseball team travelled to Medaille University for the first of a three-game series with the Mustangs on Friday evening. Medaille earned the 3-2 victory in Empire 8 action to improve to 8-16 overall and 1-6in the Empire 8, while the setback puts RSC at 10-17 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Down 1-0 head to the top of the sixth, RSC took the lead as senior James Lubanski (Port Washington,NY/Paul D. Schreiber) connected for his 10th double of the year to drive in two runs. Lubanski is now tied for the single-season doubles mark with sophomore Leandro Guzman (New Britain, CT/New Britain) who had 10 doubles as a member of the first Gator varsity baseball team in 2022.

Sophomore Dom Caminitti (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac)  was 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Gators.

Medaille answered right back as they plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 3-2 lead. RSC stranded runners in the seventh and eighth innings as they tried to tie the action.

Left handed pitcher sophomore Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) took the loss after 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts. He falls to 3-6. Sophomore Jaylen Cuevas (Bronx, NY/Fordham)  worked 2.1innings in relief with two hits and four strikeouts.

Medaille's Alex Beaird fanned eight as he picked up the complete game win, yielding four hits in nine innings of work and is now 1-2.

RSC takes on Medaille University in an Empire 8 double header on Saturday with first pitch set for noon.
