CORTLAND, N.Y. – Russell Sage College swept this afternoon's seven-inning doubleheader with Cazenovia at the Gutchess Athletic Complex, located in Cortland, N.Y.
The Gators, now winners of six-straight, defeated the Wildcats (4-7) 8-2 in the opener and erased a 9-4 deficit to take the second game 11-10.
Sophomore infielder Dom Caminitti (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) registered six hits across the sweep, three in each victory.
RSC got out to a 4-0 lead and held a multiple-run advantage throughout the opener. Sophomore infielder Andrew Knapp (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while sophomore pitcher Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) struck out 10 across five innings of work.
In the nightcap, the Gators took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before holding on to secure the sweep.
Senior outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber) blasted a two-run homer to highlight the rally, while sophomore infielder Christian Brown (Troy, NY/Troy) was 3-for-4 with a homer and double during the comeback win.
Looking ahead, the Gators (6-7) are slated to open Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday vs. Utica.
