Liam Doyle adds awards for banner first season at RSC

Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's department of athletics announced their award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year at the annual awards banquet.  In addition to several honors bestowed for athletic and academic excellence, Sage also selected the Gator of the Year Award for the department's 21 varsity sports for the 2021-2022 year.

RSC's newcomer Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) was honored as the Gator of the Year in baseball. In addition, he was also saluted as the 2021-2022 RSC Male Rookie of the Year in a Team Sport.

Doyle helped his team earn a spot in the Empire 8 Tournament and delivered for the Gators on the mound and at the plate. As a pitcher, appeared in 13 games with 8 starts and led the team with his 35 strikeouts. He added a 5.15 ERA with a 3-4 record in 43.2 innings of work. He also started 16 of 20 games played as a member of the outfield and tallied a .250 batting average and finished the season with three doubles. He added a .344 on-base percentage and scored nine runs.

Head Coach Baseball Coach Nick Pontari remarked about Doyle, "As a rookie, he contributed as a two-way player for us, by anchoring our pitching staff." Pontari added, "He won multiple conference games on the mound, and has come up clutch for us offensively, all while learning a new position (Outfield) defensively. I couldn't be more proud to have a young man like Liam in our program, leading us the throughout his career, and am excited to watch his development as a young man here at Russell Sage."
