Knapp's big day at the plate lifts Sage past Cazenovia,12-5

Syracuse, NY---Russell Sage College's baseball team faced Cazenovia College on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game held at Onondaga Community College. The Gators posted the 12-5 win to 5-16 on the season.

RSC combined for 11 hits in the game as rookie first baseman Andrew Knapp (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) finished with four RBI's and a pair of doubles. Knapp was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored for Sage as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.

Sophomore Sean Berry (Tivoli, NY/Red Hook) was 3-for-5 having scored four runs with a pair of RBI's as well for the Gators. Rookie rightfielder Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) scored a pair of runs and was 2-for-5 at the plate, while freshman outfielder Jacob Coonan (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) drove in a pair of runs as well for the Gators.

Rookie Michael Karpinski (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) worked 4.1 innings in making his fifth appearance on the year. He earned the win moving to 1-4 after he scattered six hits, allowing four earned runs with three walks and a strikeout.

Rookie Jaylen Cuevas (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep), sophomore Will Simkin (Canberra, Australia/Canberra Grammar), rookie Colby Phelps (Troy, NY/Tamarac) all worked in the game as Cuevas fanned four in his 1.2 innings of work. Simkin and Phelps only yielded one hit each in the outing.

Looking ahead, the Gators will travel to Keuka College on Sunday, April 10 for an Empire 8 doubleheader with the Wolves. Sage's home match-up with Keuka slated for Saturday, April 9 has been shifted to Monday, April 11 with a noon start at Joe Bruno Stadium.
