Gators Fall Twice at Utica

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College dropped both ends of this afternoon's Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Utica. The Gators fell in the opener 6-3 (8 innings) and the nightcap 14-2 (7 innings).

Freshman outfielder Diego Jimenez (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe Woodbury) had an RBI in both games, while freshman infielder Christian Brown (Troy, NY/Troy), who was named the E8 Rookie of the Week earlier this afternoon, scored three runs across the pair of setbacks.

A pinch-hit two-run homer by sophomore infielder Ryan Cardone proved to be the difference in the opener.

The extra inning blast spoiled a strong outing from pitcher Cameron Anderson (Clifton Park, NY/Burnt Hills), a grad student. The righty (above) tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just three runs and striking out four Pioneers.

In the nightcap, Utica (9-6/3-1 E8) broke open what was a 2-2 ballgame with a five-run sixth. The Pioneers added seven runs in the seventh to end things early.

Carbone finished the day 4-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored, while junior outfielder John Son was 4-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI in the sweep. Junior outfielder Joe Crossley went 5-for-5 in the first game, part of a 6-for-10 performance.

RSC (4-16/1-3 E8) is set to play next on Wednesday at Cazenovia. First pitch of the non-conference game is slated for 2:00 PM.
