Baseball Explodes for 21 runs as Gators post first win, beating Gordon, 21-6

                                                    

Winter Haven, Fla. – Russell Sage College's baseball team exploded for 21 runs and 21 hits as they rolled past Gordon University on Friday for the team's first victory. The contest saw Head Coach Nick Pontari's squad exploded for seven extra-base hits including a pair homeruns by rookie Christian Brown (Troy, NY/Troy). RSC is now 1-7 on the year, while Gordon moves to 4-8.

Sage jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led 6-0 before Gordon added their first runs in the bottom of the third inning. A nine-run fifth inning saw the Gators really break open the game, which went eight innings.

Brown finished the game with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate with three RBI's to go with his home runs, a two RBI blast in the top of the fifth and a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Rookie Leandro Guzman (New Britain, CT/New Britain) was 3 for 3 with three RBI's and a pair of runs in the game, while graduate performer, Dillon Maxon (Troy, NY/Tamarac) was 4 for 5 with four runs scored and a double. Rookie Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles with two runs scored.

Newcomer Zachary Figueras (Aopka, FL/Windermere) drove in two RBI's with a pair of runs scored after a 3 for 5 effort at the plate.  Sophomore Sean Berry (Tivoli, NY/Red Hook) was 4 for 5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI's to help the Gator offensive output.

Right handed rookie Griffin Snyder (Cheektowaga, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) earned the first win as he worked 3.1 innings with a pair of earned runs off four hits with a walk and a strikeout as he is now 1-1.  Doyle worked two thirds of an inning with a pair of unearned runs off two hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Junior Will Simkin (Canberra, Australia/Canberra Grammar) threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts to go with three hits he scattered for Gordon.

Looking ahead, the Gators are scheduled to play Dominican University (IL) at 10 a.m. in their final contest at the Central Florida RussMatt Invitational.
