RSC drops rain shortened game to PSU-Abington

Sanford, Fla. – Russell Sage College faced Penn State Abington in baseball on Thursday in Florida, but was only able to get five innings before rain shortened the game. Penn State Abington posted the 7-1 win to move to 6-4 on the year, while the Gators are now 0-7.

The Gators scored first with a single run in the top of the first, but fell behind as PSU tacked on five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

For the game, sophomore third baseman Alex Andrew (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber) was 3-3 at the plate, while rookie Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Doyle also saw time on the mound, working two thirds of an inning in relief with a hit and a strikeout.

Rookie Michael Karpinski (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) worked 4.1 innings with four strikeouts to go with eight hits and seven earned runs along with three walks and a hit batter. He drops to 0-2 on the year.

PSU's rookie Anthony Bencardino (Newtown, PA) was 1 for 2 with a grandslam in the bottom of the first inning to break open the game for the Lions. Sophomore Justin Fogel (Yardley, PA) earned the win to move to 1-0 as he allowed one unearned run off six hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Looking ahead, the Gators scheduled to play Gordon University at 11:00 A.M. on March 11 as part of the Central Florida RussMatt Invitational.
