MCLA runs past Sage 3-0, face Bridgewater Saturday

North Adams, MA- MCLA ran their unbeaten streak to twelve games as they defeated visiting Sage College 3-0 in a game played under overcast skies at Shewcraft field.  With the win, the Trailblazers are now 10-2-4 heading into a pivotal showdown at Bridgewater on Saturday.  Sage falls to 8-7 on the season.

MCLA took the lead in the opening period when senior Jess Tietgens outran the defense to put home her 14th goal of the season in the 22nd minute.  Fellow senior Danielle Parenteau earned the assist as she lofted a long pass over the top of the Gator defense.  Tietgens outran the backs and easily beat the Gator keeper.

MCLA controlled much of the first half of play as they outshot the visitors 12-5.

The Trailblazers took control early in the second half when Tietgens and Parenteau would connect again in the 58th minute.  Parenteau fed Tietgens from the top of the box with a thru ball to the short right corner.  Tietgens would bury a low shot across the net to the lower left side giving MCLA a commanding 2-0 advantage.  Tietgens now has 15 goals on the season.  Sophomore Lindsay Borbolla would tally from the top of the box in the 62nd minute to put the game away.

MCLA keeper Jen Wehner earned the win improving to 9-1-3 on the season as she combined with Kate Tsapatsaris on the shutout.  Sage keeper Brittany McDonald stopped 7shots in defeat.  MCLA outshot the Gators 19-9 on the afternoon.

MCLA now moves to play at Bridgewater in a MASCAC showdown on Saturday.  A Trailblazer victory would MCLA the regular season conference championship and the top seed heading into tournament play.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm.
