
Empire 8 Enjoys Tremendous Success in the Classroom, as Spring 2023 Presidents' List is Announced: Russell Sage places 70 on Presidents' List while 12 teams earn All-Academic Honors
Hilton, NY—The Empire 8 Conference announced its President's List for the 2023 Spring semester on Thursday, June 22. A total of 1,120 student-athletes from the league's membership were recognized for their excellence in the classroom this past semester with President's List distinction, one of the most prestigious honors that the Empire 8 recognizes.
Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester, while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference."
In addition, RSC had 12 varsity teams named to the Empire 8 Conference All-Academic Team this past semester, while 70 student-athletes also earned acclaim.
CLOSER LOOK
The Empire 8's ten full-time conference members sponsored 3,751 student-athletes who combined for a conference-wide fall grade point average of 3.28. Overall, 30 percent of all Empire 8 student-athletes received this impressive distinction.
Additionally, 149 teams were acknowledged as Empire 8 Conference All-Academic Teams for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester. All 10-member institutions had at least 10 programs earn this honor. Nazareth University led the way with 24 programs on the All-Academic Team, while St. John Fisher University was right behind with 23 and Hartwick College and Houghton University were tied for third with 14.
Russell Sage's women's cross country program led all teams with a remarkable 3.96 GPA.
