Job Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing athletic training services for Russell Sage College intercollegiate athletic training program. Russell Sage College is an NCAA Division III institution that provides 21 athletic programs located in Albany, New York. This is a 9-month, full-time position. Annual appointment will be August 15- May 15.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under the direction of the team physician and head athletic trainer, provide athletic training services for injuries and illnesses incidental to student-athlete participation in intercollegiate athletics
  • Prevention, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries or illnesses; return to play decision making
  • Provides home game and practice coverage including days, nights, weekend, holiday and local travel coverage
  • Maintain appropriate record keeping and documentation via "Athletic Trainer System" EMR.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver appropriate care and referrals to student-athletes
  • Provide instruction, education and testing to student-athletes, and coaches regarding athletic injuries and illnesses
  • Assist with the daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training facilities
  • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with administrative duties as assigned
  • Maintain certifications and licensure as required by the Board Of Certification for Athletic Trainers and State of New York
  • Engage in professional development and continuing education to maintain certification standards. 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS?

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy in accordance with FERPA/HIPPA.
  • Assist with the supervision and education of student employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or his/her designee.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or other related discipline accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). 
  • Certified by the BOC (Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers).  Eligible for New York State Athletic Training Licensure.  
  • CPR/First Aid Certification at the Basic Life Support/Professional Rescuer level or beyond. 
  • Ability to function independently, display strong attention to detail, work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must meet physical demands of position listed below.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field
  • Previous experience working in the collegiate athletic training setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Must be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weight/heights. 
  • In the event of an emergency, must be able to kneel and provide CPR for an extended amount of time.  
  • Ability to push carts with athletic equipment on them, carry athletic training kits, and water coolers. 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances. 
  • Must be able to be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
