Sage Men's Golf Team Readies for Empire 8 Spring Championship

Hershey, PA--The final two rounds of the 2021-22 Empire 8 Men's Golf Championship are set to take place from Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA on April 15-16. St. John Fisher College holds a one-stroke lead over defending champion Utica College after the Fall portion of the 2021-22 Empire 8 Championship. Fans can follow along with live individual and team scores from this weekend's championship.
 
Fall scores will combined with scores from rounds three and four this weekend to determine team and individual awards. The 2021-22 Empire 8 Men's Golf Team Champion earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship, which will take place May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. St. John Fisher will look to win its 17th Empire 8 title this season, while Utica will attempt to repeat as league champs. Nazareth is the only other E8 institution to win a men's golf championship, earning back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003.
 
St. John Fisher holds a one-stroke lead (628) over defending champion Utica College (629) heading into this weekend's action. The 2021-22 Empire 8 Fall Men's Golf Championship was held at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY on October 2-3. Oswego State, Russell Sage College, Elmira College, Nazareth College and Keuka College are also set to compete this weekend.
 
Utica graduate student Josh Kienz and Oswego State senior Ryan Fecco are tied for the individual lead, both at +10 over par (154) after the first two rounds. First-year Bryce Barber of St. John Fisher and sophomore Adam Woodmansee of Utica are right behind at +11 and +12, respectively.

AWARDS: The Empire 8 champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The top five scorers at the end of the tournament will earn first-team all-conference honors with the next five finishers being named to the second team. Finishers 11-15 will earn third team accolades. The individual with the lowest four-round score will be named Empire 8 Player of the Year, while the lowest scoring first-year student-athlete will earn Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors.

THE COURSE: The Hershey Country Club was founded by iconic chocolate entrepreneur Milton S. Hershey in 1930. The club has grown since its founding, as the private club now features three separate pristine 18-hole courses. The E8 Championship will feature the club's East Course, which opened in 1969 and lays claim to over 100 bunkers scattered throughout the rolling fairways.  The club and its expansive views have welcomed some of the sport's all-time greats, including Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.
