Kevin Tarpey to depart as head athletic trainer for RSC

Albany, NY — Russell Sage College's director of athletics Sandy Augstein-Collins has announced that Kevin Tarpey will be stepping down as head athletic trainer, effective December 17, 2021. A national search to select an individual as the new head athletic trainer will commence immediately.

"We are so thankful to Kevin for his contributions and leadership within our athletic department and athletic training area." She added, "We wish him continued success in his next challenge professionally."

Tarpey joined Sage's Athletic Training staff as an assistant athletic trainer in August of 2018 and was named to the head position in May of 2021. A 2016 graduate of SUNY Cortland, he worked two years at nearby University at Albany, where he was a graduate assistant in the sports medicine department. While at UAlbany, Tarpey also earned his Master's degree in Educational Policy and Leadership, while covering the Great Danes' women's volleyball and baseball programs.

In his short time with the Gators, Tarpey made a tremendous impact with the department and the athletic training area. Some of the tasks he has had responsibility for at RSC include managing weekly on-campus doctor's clinic, as well as managing student-athletes' secondary health insurance claims. Tarpey has also managed and facilitated the department-wide practice calendar as well as the daily athletic trainer coverage calendar for all practices and games. He also implemented new electronic medical record system as well as the department's new electronic concussion screening protocol.

Prior to his time in Albany, he worked as an undergraduate assistant at SUNY Cortland, working with the men's lacrosse, men's soccer, field hockey and wrestling teams.  He also assisted at LeMoyne College, working with the Dolphins' men's soccer team.

In May 2016, he was a research intern with the Geneva Foundation for the NCAA/West Point Concussion Studies.  He administered baseline ImPACT and BESS/SAC tests plus Baseline questionnaires/consent forms to over 4,000 cadets at the United States Military Academy. Tarpey is a member of NATA and is up to date on First Aid and CPR/AED certification.  He played club soccer at SUNY Cortland.
