SAGE TO EXPAND TRACK AND FIELD PROGRAMS WITH THE ADDITION OF INDOOR MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS

Albany, NY—  The Sage Colleges is pleased to announce the addition of two new varsity teams to its athletics program.   Endorsed by President Chris Ames, the Gators will compete in both women's and men's indoor track and field with the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year.  The new teams elevate the total number of Sage's varsity offerings to 19. Sage has steadily expanded their athletic program offerings, adding 12 teams from the time span between 2008-2019.

Director of Athletics Sandy Augstein-Collins made the official announcement noting, "The addition of indoor track and field further complements Sage's growing Athletic Department." She continued, "Coach Taranto's leadership of the Cross Country and Track and Field programs has been outstanding and we look forward to the continued development of those programs with the addition of Indoor Track and Field."

Sage's Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach David Taranto will serve as the head coach of the new teams and will lead them as they will compete in the Empire 8. Taranto noted, "I am extremely excited for the addition of men's and women's indoor track here at Sage." He continued, "Having a year-round program will allow us to train, compete and recruit at a level on par with the rest of our Empire 8 peers. It's an exciting time to be a Gator, as the cross country and outdoor track teams have seen the beginning stages of success over the past few months. The addition of the indoor season will allow us to work with our track student-athletes during the fall semester, which will be an invaluable opportunity to train and improve. We now have the ability to attract the best high school recruits, contributing to the long-term goals we have for our men's and women's programs here at Sage."

"The addition of indoor track and field will allow Sage's running and field student-athletes to complete year-round in a competitive intercollegiate program," noted Vice Presidents for Student Life, Trish Cellemme. She added, "It will certainly improve the success of our student -athletes."

Taranto added, "I want to thank the college administration for investing in our student-athletes and supporting the growth of our running programs. The cross country programs have had great success both academically and in our community and I am proud that our college is committed to their continued success on the track as well."
