Orlando, FL— The Sage Colleges' Director of Athletic Communications, Ann King (Halfmoon, NY) has been selected as the 2019-2020 NCAA Division III Sports Information Directors Association (D3-SIDA) in conjunction with the 2019 College Sports Information Directors Association annual convention in Orlando, Florida.  King becomes the first female president of D3-SIDA and replaces Lenny Reich of Mount Union University. She will serve as president of the organization for the upcoming academic year.

Ann King is currently in her 33rd year as a sports information director, and just completed her  tenth year at The Sage Colleges. She came to Sage in the summer of 2009 after serving 17 and half years as SID at The College of New Jersey. Prior to her arrival at TCNJ, she served for six years as SID at her alma mater, Drew University in Madison, NJ.

Hired in the summer of 2009 at The Sage Colleges to serve as the program's first full-time SID, she handles all aspects of sports information for Sage's athletic department and their 17 varsity sports. She writes and edits all event programs, while also maintaining The College's athletic web site and social media outlets. In the summer of 2013, she was named the Director of Athletic Communications.

She was named to the NCAA's Division III-CoSIDA Strategic Communications Committee in the spring of 2012 and was elected as the group's chair. She also served as a member of the NCAA Media Coordination Advisory Board from 2012-2015.

King is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Eastern College Athletic Directors Sports Information Directors Association. During the summer of 1999, she was named to CoSIDA's Board of Directors and served a three-year term as a College Division Representative from 1999-2002. She was just the tenth female named to CoSIDA's Board of Directors in the 65-year history of the organization.

In the spring of 2017, she was chosen to participate in the NCAA Division III CoSIDA Student Program, serving as a mentor to a rising college senior looking to pursue a career in intercollegiate athletics. She participated in the program once again in 2018.

Over the last 33 years, 16 of her publications have received CoSIDA awards, including five Best in the Nation laurels. She currently serves on CoSIDA's Special Awards Committee. She is the former Vice Chair of the East Region for CoSIDA's Site Selection Committee, and has also worked on the group's Workshop Social Committee, where she served as the Vice Chair of the committee for three years. She also served on the CoSIDA Digest and Website Editorial Committee, the Workshop Program Committee, and the Academic All-America Committee.

She has also served on the College Division Management Council (CDMAC) for CoSIDA, and is currently the First Vice President of D3SIDA after serving the past two years (2015-2017) as Second Vice President and as a District Representative when the group was first founded. She was also chosen to participate in the NCAA Division III CoSIDA Strategic Committee and served as the group's chair and assisted with the production of the NCAA Division III Guide to Strategic Athletic Communications on Campus in 2012.

In 1995, she was named to the Board of Directors of the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) and served as the organization's secretary until 2002, when she was named the organization's first vice president and served as the group's president for the 2003-2004 academic year.

One of the founders of WoSIDA (Women's Sports Information Directors) formerly FAME (Female Athletic Media Relations Executives), she has been active in the creation of an organization whose mission is to discuss issues facing women in the sports media relations field and to develop appropriate strategies to deal with those issues. WoSIDA members are committed to encouraging and mentoring all women working in athletic media relations as a career. In January of 2008, she was chosen to serve as the first president of WoSIDA, a role she held until the fall of 2010.  

While at TCNJ, she served as host SID for 20 NCAA Championship events, 75 NCAA Regional tournaments as well as numerous conference tournaments.

Named the 2003 recipient of CoSIDA's Warren Berg Award, King received the award in Cleveland at the CoSIDA workshop and became the 19th College Division SID chosen for the distinction, while also becoming the first female SID tapped for the honor.  In the summer of 2006, she was elected to CoSIDA's Hall of Fame. She was also named the recipient of the ECAC-SIDA Irving T. Marsh Award in 2007. She was selected as the 2017-2018 recipient of the CoSIDA Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award, which is presented annually to a CoSIDA member who is a pioneer in the field of sports information who has mentored and helped improve the level of ethnic and gender diversity within CoSIDA.

 

A 1986 graduate of Drew University with a B.A. in American Studies, King resides in Halfmoon, NY with her husband, Tracy King, the commissioner of the Liberty League. The couple has a son, Robert who is 13 years old.
