Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges Department of Athletics announced the resignation of Head Softball Coach Jamie Brown as she has accepted the position as Head Softball Coach at Buffalo State, her alma mater. While at Sage, Brown posted collected an impressive 141-101 mark, while leading her teams to 20 or more wins in five of her six seasons. She owns a .583 win percentage at Sage as well.
Sage will conduct a national search for her replacement which will begin immediate replacement.
Director of Athletics and Recreation at Sage, Sandy Augstein-Collins said "The Sage Athletics Department wishes Jamie a successful transition to coaching at her alma mater, Buffalo State." She continued, "We thank her for her service to the Athletic Department, to the Sage student-athletes, and, especially, to the softball student-athletes in the Sage Softball program."
Brown was selected as Sage's head softball coach in the fall of 2011 after starring locally at Shaker High School. She has hit the ground running and has continued to build the program as a conference and regional contender since her arrival on campus. During her time at Sage, she helped the program to the first Skyline Conference regular-season championship, while earning post-season play every season during her tenure.
In her first season with the Gators, Brown's team shattered the Sage record book after starting the year with a school-record 13-game win streak and by season's end had produced a 29-17 record, while taking home the runner-up trophies in both the Skyline Conference and the ECAC Metro Tournaments. After a return trip to the league tournament in 2013, Brown's 2014 team captured the Skyline Conference regular-season championship and served as host for the Skyline Conference Tournament, and finished as the league's runner-up.
Two years ago, the squad enjoyed another outstanding season after establishing a new standard for longest win streak (16 games) after an impressive 27-15 season. Along the way, Sage wrapped the season as the Skyline Conference Tournament Runners-up after another post-season appearance. Senior Morgan Dunn added Skyline Conference Player of the Year honors to her resume and became the first Sage softball player and female student-athlete honored as an All-American as she earned NFCA All-America Third Team acclaim at third base, while the Gators had a record five performers also named Skyline Conference All-Star First Team performers. Last season, the 2017 Sage team went 22-19 and advanced to the Skyline Championship game once again, only to fall in the finals.
A graduate of Shaker High School, Brown excelled at Buffalo State, where she was a four-time letterwinner for the Bengals. Twice during her intercollegiate career, the Bengals garnered NCAA regional appearances after considerable success in the SUNYAC playoffs. She is a 1999 graduate of Buffalo State College, where she earned her bachelor of arts in journalism. She went on to earn her Master of Science degree in general education from the University at Albany in 2002.
