Familiar faces join Sage's Athletic Training Staff

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges has selected Tom Fashouer (Schenectady, NY) and Ryan Laughlin (Mechanicville, NY) as new members of the Athletic Training staff.  Both are not new faces at Sage as Fashouer joined Sage in the summer of 2014 as head women's and men's tennis coach, while Laughlin previously assisted Sage working as a per diem assistant athletic trainer and arrived at Sage in the summer of 2015.

"We are incredibly excited to bring Tom and Ryan onto our Athletic Training staff for the fall, added Director of Athletics, Sandy Augstein-Collins.  She continued, "They are both familiar with the student-athletes and procedures here at Sage, making the transition seamless.  They both bring knowledge and a passion for athletic training that will help to enhance the student-athlete experience."

Both will join Sage's Athletic Training department which is led by Sharon Brodie and will expand the service and coverage of Sage's student-athletes and athletic programs with their skills and backgrounds, as well as their familiarity with the Gator teams and student-athletes.

Earlier this spring The Sage Colleges announced that it will be adding two new varsity teams to its athletics program.  Endorsed by President Susan Scrimshaw and Sage's Board of Trustees, the Gators will compete in field hockey and men's lacrosse beginning with the 2018-2019 academic year.  The new teams elevate the total number of Sage's varsity offerings to 17.

A graduate of Lock Haven University, Fashouer earned his bachelor of science degree in 1978 and earned a master's degree the following year from The College of New Jersey.

A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the World Team Tennis (WTT) Association, Fashouer possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience with the sport and is no stranger to Sage's athletic department and the Capital District having served as the head athletic trainer at Union College from 1982 until 1988 as well as the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from 1992 until the Spring of 2014.

He also owns and manages Albany Physical Therapy, which has been providing rehabilitation and contract Athletic Training services to Capital District High Schools and Colleges for over twenty five years. He is a past president of the New York State Athletic Trainers Association. In addition, he is an active member of the New York State Education Department's Professional Assistance program, assisting licensed professionals in New York State with substance abuse problems.

Laughlin, a 2015 graduate of SUNY Cortland, holds a bachelor of science degree in athletic training. Laughlin first arrived at Sage in 2015-2016, while attending graduate school at Sage. Laughlin recently was honored with the Civilian Award by the Town of Colonie Police department for his heroics in saving a life with his first aid and CPR training. He holds numerous memberships and certifications, including membership from the National Athletic Trainers' Association and New York State. Certified in both CPR and AED from the America Red Cross, Laughlin is currently working towards completion of his CSCS certification which he will complete in the coming months. He is also a certified instructor in First Aid-CPR and AED use.
