Sage Names Garrett Cobb Head Women's Soccer Coach

Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges' has named Garrett Cobb (Clifton Park, NY) as the next head women's soccer coach for the Gators.  He replaces Andrew Gamarra who served in the role for two seasons.

Director of Athletics and Recreation at Sage, Dani Drews noted of Cobb, "Garrett has impressed us with his coaching and dedication to Sage over the last few seasons." She continued, "He is ready to take on this head coaching position and I am confident that he will lead our women's program to even greater success in the coming years."  

Cobb noted of his selection, "I'm excited and honored to become the head coach of the women's soccer program at The Sage Colleges." He continued, "The team has been making great strides in the past couple of seasons and I look forward to continuing that progression. I want to thank Director of Athletics Dani Drews along with the entire search committee for providing me with this great opportunity.  I'm looking forward to working with a great staff and for such an esteemed institution as The Sage Colleges."

Cobb inherits a Sage women's soccer team that has achieved back to back impressive campaigns as the 2015 team collected a share of the program's first Skyline Conference regular-season championship after an 8-1 record. Sage fell in the Skyline Conference semifinals in penalty kicks and capped the record-setting season with a 14-4-1 mark. The 14 wins is a new standard for success for the team, while the team also strung together a seven-game win streak, while garnering the 2015 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. Three players also earned Skyline First Team honors and another pair earned second team citations, while the 2015 Gators produced the team's first NSCAA All-East Third Team performer.

Cobb is a veteran in Sage's department of athletics having served the past three seasons as the assistant men's soccer coach. Last season, he helped lead the men's team to the program's first Skyline Conference Championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament bid after an impressive 13-4-2 record. During his time with Sage's men's team, Cobb helped the Gators to two regular-season Skyline Championships (2013 and 2015), while also helping to collect a NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award in 2014 as well as numerous Skyline Conference all-star selections including the 2013 Player of the Year, as well as the 2014 and 2015 Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the 2015 Rookie of the Year.  

Cobb arrived at Sage after coaching locally for over a decade in the Capital District. He came to Sage after leading Christian Brothers' Academy as the boys' head soccer coach for two seasons. He turned them into a winning program within a span of just two short seasons.   He was tapped as the 2012 Class AA Big 10 Coach of the Year after leading the squad to a 9-6-2 finish after posting just three wins the previous season.  Cobb has also served a head coach and club trainer for the Capital United Soccer Club, winning a U-17 US Youth Soccer National Championship. Cobb has also head coached for the Alleycats Soccer Club and currently coaches with NY Elite FC and the Olympic Development Program.  He is a NYS certified coach and has obtained both a Premier Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a B License from the United States Soccer Federation. 

A graduate from Shenendehowa High School, he also excelled as a member of the Capital United club soccer team.  He played collegiate soccer for East Carolina University.
