Sage honors Brian Cady and Tom Berkery with Awards!

Albany, NY—The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2015-2016 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award. Sage also bestowed a pair of honors to two locals as Tom Berkery (Watervliet, NY) and Brian Cady (Albany, NY) were honored. Berkery was tapped as the Sage Fan of the Year, while Cady was named an Honorary Gator.

Sage Men's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Brian Barnes said of Berkery, "Tom's support of all our teams has meant so much to our student-athletes and coaches these last few years." Barnes continued, "Tom is a frequent visitor of "The Swamp," cheering our Gators to victory on the pitch, hardwood and softball diamond.  We have enjoyed getting to know Tom these last few seasons and look forward to celebrating many future Gator successes with him."

Cady, who has worked the last four seasons as the public address announcer for Sage's women's and men's basketball team has also been a fixture in the stands supporting many of Sage's student-athletes in other sports, while also helping to tell Sage's athletic story through his radio program, Cady's Corner.

Barnes noted, "Brian's passion and enthusiasm for Sage athletics is always on display." Barnes added, "He takes great pride in serving as the voice for Sage men's and women's basketball and is an avid supporter of all of our Gator teams as a fan.  We're excited he'll be back with us again next year and extremely grateful for his service to Sage athletics."
