SAGE STUDENT-ATHLETES DONATE OVER 250 TOYS TO TOYS FOR TOTS

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges’ athletic teams are firm believers that community service is an important part of their collegiate experience.  Sage’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the Guardians of the Swamp believe it so much that they have combined to make a difference for area children at the holidays and collected over 250 toys that have been donated to the Capital District Toys for Tots campaign.

Members of Sage’s 15 varsity teams collected the gifts and made the donation on December 3. Just last week, the same group gathered canned goods and non-perishable food that was donated to a local food bank as part of the Gators’ continuing community service ventures.

The past two falls, Sage’s teams have also participated in a “Shoe Box Project” donating back to school supplies for area schools, while last month this same group also collected clothing for a project in conjunction with the Skyline Conference Fall Festival. The items were distributed to various local shelters, including My Sisters' Place in nearby White Plains, New York. Since 1976, My Sisters' Place (MSP) has worked to end violence in intimate relationships and combat the effects of domestic violence and human trafficking on women, men, and children throughout Westchester County.

With this new community service project the list of activities Sage’s student-athletes have participated in the area communities continues to grow. Over the last few years, Sage student-athletes have held a food drive for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, participated annually at the New York State Special Olympics Fall Games and the New York State Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Sage’s student-athletes have also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House preparing meals, while one team also performed community service at the Albany Rescue Mission; while another group helped to decorate the pediatric wing at Albany Medical Center.
