Tom Fashouer named Sage's Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

Albany, NY – The Sage College’s department of athletics announces the selection of Tom Fashouer (Schenectady, NY) as the new head men’s and women’s tennis for the Gators. Fashouer replaces Bruce Perry, who departed Sage this summer after directing the tennis programs at Sage the past four seasons.

Director of Athletics and Recreation, Dani Drews said of the announcement, "Sage is fortunate to have one of the most well-respected people in the Capital District join our staff.” Drews added, “Tom brings to Sage a wealth of athletic and physical therapy experience that make him an ideal person to lead our tennis programs."

A graduate of Lock Haven University, Fashouer earned his bachelor of science degree in 1978 and earned a master’s degree the following year from The College of New Jersey.

A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the World Team Tennis (WTT) Association, Fashouer possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience with the sport and is no stranger to Sage’s athletic department and the Capital District having served as the head athletic trainer at Union College from 1982 until 1988 as well as the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from 1992 until the Spring of 2014.

He also owns and manages Albany Physical Therapy, which has been providing rehabilitation and contract Athletic Training services to Capital District High Schools and Colleges for over twenty years. He is a past president of the New York State Athletic Trainers Association. In addition, he is an active member of the New York State Education Department’s Professional Assistance program, assisting licensed professionals in New York State with substance abuse problems.

Sage’s women’s tennis team, which garnered a spot in the 2013 Skyline Conference Tournament, returns a lineup that boasts the two-time Skyline Conference Player of the Year in senior Kirsten Ackerman (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) as well as sophomore Erin Duffy (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill), who earned Skyline Conference Second Team honors last season as a newcomer.

Sage opens the 2014 campaign hosting Bay Path College on August 30 at nearby Prospect Park (Troy, NY) in a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
