Sage takes fourth in race for 2014-2015 Skyline Presidents' Cup

New York, NY—For the third straight year, The Sage Colleges’ athletic teams finished in fourth place in the race for the Skyline Conference Presidents’ Cup. Sage (.653) finished fourth overall as it earned conference titles in women’s volleyball and men’s basketball.

For first time since 2011-12, St. Joseph’s-L.I. has captured the Skyline Conference Presidents’ Cup, a measure of all-sports excellence in conference competition. The Skyline Conference instituted the Presidents’ Cup in 2007-08.   SJC compiled 90.50 out of a possible 118 points for an overall rating of .766, while Mount Saint Mary (.713) finished runner-up in the standings for the third consecutive year.  It marks the Golden Eagles’ fifth Presidents Cup in school history.

St. Joseph’s-L.I. claimed league crowns in women’s cross country and women’s lacrosse, while advancing to the finals of the men’s basketball, women’s tennis and men’s soccer championships.  The Golden Eagles also finished runner-up in men’s cross country and men’s golf.

MSMC captured Skyline Championships in men’s cross country and women’s swimming, and placed second in women’s cross country, softball, men’s swimming and women’s volleyball.

Farmingdale State (.703) finished third in the standings after winning the Presidents Cup in each of the past two seasons.  FSC won a league-high four championships in 2014-15 – men’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s tennis and softball.

Mount Saint Vincent (.567) placed fifth in the standings, followed by Yeshiva (.537), Maritime (.517), Purchase (.410), Old Westbury (.363) and Sarah Lawrence (.263).

A school earns points toward the Presidents’ Cup based upon the conference finish in each sport in which it competes. For each sport, the maximum number of points an institution can earn is equal to the number of teams competing in that sport.  For sports with regular-season and conference tournament play, a school receives points based upon an average of the regular-season and conference tournament finishes. For sports with only conference championships, the finish in the championship determines the Presidents’ Cup points.

An overall rating is generated for each school which is a percentage of total points earned divided by total points possible for that school.
