Scott O'Reilly Joins Sage Men's Basketball Staff

Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges Athletic Department announced the selection of Scott O’Reilly (Watervliet, NY) as the newest member of the department. O’Reilly joins Sage’s men’s basketball staff this season as an assistant coach.

Head Sage Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Barnes said of O’Reilly, “He possesses all of the character traits we look for in an assistant coach.” Barnes noted, “He has a great enthusiasm for the game and a tremendous work ethic.  He’s learned from some of the very best coaches in Section II and I’m excited about adding Scott's experience to our program.”

Prior to his arrival at Sage, O’Reilly spent the 2011-12 season as an assistant men's basketball coach for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s junior varsity program. While at RPI, he was active in daily practice planning, on the floor instruction, player development and in-game coaching.  O’Reilly further contributed to the program with his efforts in live scouting of opponents to generate pre-game scouting reports for game preparation.

A 2008 graduate of SUNY Cortland, O’Reilly earned his undergraduate degree in history. He is currently working on a master's degree in adolescent education in social studies from The College of Saint Rose.

Most recently he worked as a teaching assistant in special education department at Watervliet Junior Senior High School from 2008 until 2012.

As a graduate of nearby Watervliet High School, O’Reilly played under the legendary Section II coach and New York State Hall of Fame inductee, George Mardigan.   In addition, O’Reilly served as the head modified basketball coach at Watervliet Junior Senior High School for two seasons. While there, he assisted with the live scouting for the 2010-2011 Watervliet varsity boys’ basketball, which captured the Section II Class B Championship. He also spent two seasons at the helm of the Arsenal City 15-Under AAU team from 2009-2011.

In addition to holding a New York State Coaching Certificate, O’Reilly brings with him experience working the Sage Gators’ Spring Break Basketball Camp as well as the George Mardigan Basketball Camp.
