Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges Athletic Director, Dani Drews announced the selection of 1995 Shaker High School graduate, Jamie Brown as the new head coach of softball program at the College.
Dani Drews, Athletic Director said of the selection, “After a long national search, Sage is fortunate to have hired a great coach with local roots.” Drews added, “We are so excited that Jamie is coming home to coach the Gators. She was a great fit with our student-athletes and our department. We’re looking forward to her arrival and the start of Sage’s fall program.”
Brown said of her appointment, “I am so excited to have this opportunity to coach at Sage. “Brown added, “Not only a chance to coach where I grew up, but to also a chance to work with such a great staff. I am looking forward to getting started with the team and beginning this new journey with them.”
An experienced coach at all levels having worked on the NCAA Division III level at Skidmore College, the NCAA Division II level at East Stroudsburg University and California State-Chico as well as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Southern Utah University, Brown brings an extensive list of accomplishments and skills to the Gator softball program. Among her many accomplishments, she helped the Warriors at East Stroudsburg set a school-record for wins with 27 in 2006, while producing a pair of NFCA all-regional players as well as four all-conference players and directing that same team to the NCAA Division II tournament, a school first.
While at Chico State, her team finished seventh nationally in Division II in defense, while also leading the conference in fielding percentage. Highly respected in the coaching ranks, she has also served as the NCAA representative at one of the 2009 NCAA Division II regional tournaments, while also serving as a representative to the 2007 NCAA Division II Athletic Leadership Conference.
Among her many additional roles, she has spent several summers as a camp supervisor at the highly-recognized UCLA Softball Summer Camp, where in addition to the supervision of overnight campers, she was involved with the instruction of fundamentals including infield play, catching, hitting, and bunting. In 1999 and 2000, she served as an assistant coach for the Women’s Major ASA Team, Adirondack Ice. Her primary responsibilities included coaching first base, while also working with the outfield and the squad’s hitters.
A graduate of Shaker High School, Brown is certainly a familiar face in the Capital Region. A three-time Suburban Council All-Star at Shaker after starring as the left fielder, she excelled at Buffalo State, where she was a four-time letterwinner for the Bengals. Twice during her intercollegiate career, the Bengals garnered NCAA regional appearances after considerable success in the SUNYAC playoffs. She is a 1999 graduate of Buffalo State College, where she earned her bachelor of arts in journalism. She went on to earn her master of science degree in general education from the University at Albany in 2002.
