Sage Men's Cross Country Team Named to 2010 Scholar-Athlete Team by USTFCCCA

Albany, NY----The Sage College’s men’s cross country was recognized this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as they were named to the 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s Scholar Team for their efforts on the course and in the classroom this past season and were one of 125 teams recognized for their efforts. Haverford College (PA) was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men’s Scholar Team Year. The Fords won their first NCAA title in their school’s athletics history with the men’s cross country team’s triumph in the fall of 2010.

Sage launched their men’s cross country program this past season and was honored for their efforts in their first season of competition as one of the Top 125 All-Academic Teams with their combined GPA of 3.33. The Gators were the lone representative from the Skyline Conference saluted on the team. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better and have compiled a score (finished at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.

Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.

Among the student-athletes honored for their accomplishments were freshmen co-captains Bryan Kelly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley Central) and Jason Applegate (Schenectady, NY/Mohanasen).  Also honored were sophomore Mesfin Solomon (Albany, NY/Albany), senior John Dolny (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) and rookie Christopher Nerf (Latham, NY/Shaker).
